Capital Project Vote- November 29, 2016

Dear Greenwood Lake Union Free School District Families,

The Board of Education has approved a new capital project for your consideration.  The project vote is scheduled for November 29, 2016 from 11AM-9PM in the GWL Elementary School gym.  The two propositions that will be put forth for consideration are based on community and faculty feedback gleaned through focus groups and surveys.  We are able to leverage our capital reserve and budget money earmarked for bond payments to support this project at no additional cost to our taxpayers.   

The propositions for consideration are as follows:

CAPITAL RESERVE FUND:  DISTRICT-WIDE EXPENDITURES: PROPOSITION NO. 1

Shall Proposition No. 1 set forth in the notice of this meeting authorizing the expenditure of $5,000,000 from The Districtwide Renovations, Reconstruction, Construction and Improvements to Buildings and Facilities, and School Bus Purchase Capital Reserve Fund for building improvements $4,419,523 and for the purchase of buses $580,477 be approved?

This proposition addresses:  

·      Elementary and Middle School Required Repairs

·      Elementary and Middle School Security Enhancements

·      Middle School Project Lead the Way/Engineering Space Renovation

·      Middle School Gym Floor Replacement

·      Middle School Athletic Field Refurbishment

·      School Bus Purchases

ELEMENTARY SCHOOL CAFETERIA RENOVATION EXPENDITURES: PROPOSITION NO. 2

Shall Proposition No. 2 set forth in the notice of this meeting authorizing the construction of improvements to and renovation of the Elementary School cafeteria and related matters, at a maximum estimated cost of $2,057,961, and authorizing said amount to be raised by the levy of a tax upon the taxable property of said School District to be collected annually, with District obligations to be issued in anticipation thereof, be approved?

This proposition addresses:

Elementary School Cafeteria Renovations: the cafeteria will remain in the current location but will be renovated to address the concerns articulated by staff, faculty and parents regarding this space.
