Caitlin Averill- First Grade
Caitlin Averill is a First Grade teacher at Greenwood Lake Elementary School. Caitlin studied Early Childhood and Childhood Education at SUNY Geneseo and recently completed a Masters of Education in International Literacy and Second Language Instruction from Sam Houston State University. Caitlin taught Kindergarten and English Language Learners for four years in Arizona and Maryland before returning back to New York to teach First Grade in Greenwood Lake. During her time in Arizona, Caitlin served as grade level chair and mentor teacher for beginning English Language Learner teachers and hopes to take on leadership roles here in Greenwood Lake as well. On her spare time, Caitlin likes to spend time outdoors hiking with her husband and small dog.
Ms. Averill: I am excited and eager to be an active member of the community and look forward to sharing with, and learning from the expertise among my colleagues.
Gregory Brown- 7th Grade Special Education
Gregory Brown joins us in his 5th year as an educator. For the last three years, Gregory worked as an inclusion teacher at Brooklyn Preparatory High School and was the leader of the social studies department at his school.
Mr. Brown: I am proud to join the competent educators and staff members at Greenwood Lake Middle School. Moreover, I am looking forward to working with a talented and diverse group of students
Kimberly Nardozza is a First Grade teacher at Greenwood Lake Elementary School. She studied Childhood Education at SUNY Oneonta and chose Greenwood Lake as a great place to start her career. While Kim is new to first grade, she has taught second and third grade math as well. Kim also spent a lot of time substitute teaching in the district.
Ms. Nardozza: I am so excited for this year and is happy to be a part of Greenwood Lake!
Kate Reilly- Grade 7
Kate Reilly is our new 7th grade ELA teacher! For the last 5 years, Ms. Reilly taught 6th grade ELA at Mott Hall Science and Technology Academy in the Bronx. She graduated with a MA in Teaching English from Columbia University, Teachers College and a BA from Binghamton University in Anthropology.
Ms. Reilly: Teaching is a passion of mine and I am thrilled to be a new member of the Greenwood Lake Community. It is my goal to ensure that our students have the reading and writing skills necessary to be successful in 8th grade and beyond.
Crystal Sanchez- Grades 1-5, Spanish
Crystal is originally from Dallas, Texas. She has been happily married for three years to a U.S. Marine whose orders brought her to the Mid Hudson Valley last year and she is now proudly embracing New York as her new home. She graduated from the University of North Texas and this will be Crystal’s ninth year teaching. She taught 1st grade for three years, 4th grade for two years, two years as a K-5 Reading Interventionist, one year as an ENL teacher, and now taking on the BEST role yet as the 1st-5th grade Spanish teacher here at Greenwood Lake.
Ms. Sanchez: ¡Hola! Me llamo Crystal Sanchez. It’s going to be a year full of fun Spanish learning and lots of adventures! I can’t wait to experience what this year has in store for us! I am very excited about the upcoming school year and feel tremendously honored to now be a part of the Greenwood Lake community.
Jennifer Spitaleri- Kindergarten
Jennifer Spitaleri is starting her 9th year as a teacher. She taught first grade for seven years and this is her second year teaching kindergarten. During Jennifer’s teaching career, she has had the opportunity to take on curriculum writing, take part in committees, and advise a school club.
Ms. Spitaleri: As an educator, I firmly believe that it is important to understand that our students are all types of learners and it is our job to incorporate all learning styles to help our kids achieve success. I am excited to join the Greenwood Lake family and am looking forward to working with the staff, students, and families here.
Jessica Robb- Grades 6-8 Spanish
Heather Greenburg- School Psychologist – GWL Middle School
Heather Greenburg is a 6-year resident of Monroe NY. Early in her career she gained experience providing mental health services to children and families in outpatient settings in NYC. She formerly worked as the Child & Family Support Dept Supervisor in a private school for students with autism and other developmental disabilities. Prior to GWL, Heather worked at the Delaware Autism Program as a behavior specialist/school psychologist then spent time at home raising my 2 boys.
Mrs. Greenburg: I am so grateful to be part of such a talented, creative and hard-working group of professionals in the GWL schools. Since starting at GWL in January 2016, I've had the pleasure of getting to know our wonderful students outside of the classroom by chaperoning school dances and attending school trips. My ongoing goal is to empower our students to strive, grow and thrive to succeed academically, socially and emotionally.
