  • Chicken Product Recall

This morning, the US Department Of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) notified us that our primary supplier of cooked chicken products, Pilgrim’s Pride Corp., has recalled approximately 4,568,080 pounds of fully cooked chicken products (e.g., chicken nuggets). The notification advised that these products may have been contaminated with extraneous material including wood, rubber, plastic and/or metal and was produced between August 21, 2014 and March 1, 2016.

  • Commissioner Decision - Tuxedo Tuition Dispute

We are pleased to inform you that by decision dated March 17,2016 (copy attached), the New York State Commissioner of Education dismissed in its entirety the appeal filed against us by Tuxedo School District seeking to recover approx. $900,000 of High School tuition they alleged was owed to them by Greenwood Lake for the 2013-14 and 2014-15 school years. As a result of the dismissal of the appeal, Greenwood Lake does not have to pay any additional tuition. As you know, we vigorously disputed Tuxedo’s billing and declined to renew our non-resident tuition contract with them. While Tuxedo may seek judicial review of the Commissioner’s decision, it is our hope that this decision will put closure on this unfortunate matter.

  • Update- Capital Project

The Board of Education discussed the recent capital project vote on 3/10 and how we will move forward. The Board decided that we will ask the community to move the 4M high school fund to a new reserve during our regularly scheduled budget vote. Please note, that in order to spend this money, the community will need to vote to approve the expenditures. This summer, community focus groups will be formed to help guide the Board of Education on how to spend this reserve as well as determine how we should address the academic and security enhancements previously presented to the community in our recent vote. The Board of Education will likely present a new project for consideration at some point in the fall of 2016. Please email your feedback for the BOE to Mary DePietro, District Clerk (mdepietro@gwlufsd.org).
